Health Services - Talk on Osteoarthritis/ Osteoplasty

A talk on "Osteoarthristis" was arranged together with Hospital Damai Service on Saturaday afternoon 18th March 2006, a talk facilitated by Dr. Surgeon Suhail Suresh of Hospital Damai Service. The talk was attended both from the publics and the lions and have filled up the seminar room.
The talk featured on options on the management of "Osteoarthritis" variying from different kind of drugs, physiotherapies to various surgeries that includes all kind of replacements on joints of bodies. The talk also emphasized on the quality of living without pains causes of "Osteoarthritis".
President Alex prepared and sponsored the tea break and we had good opportunities talking with Dr. Suhai Suresh and the publics.
The OC for this service was Lion Elaine Tan, the Zone 10th Chairperson.

7th Anniversary and Anniversary Community Projects with Sisters Clubs

Visit to FRIM with Orphans
We have a total of 66 participants from this project, which included of children from The Precious Home and Rumah Hope, and our sister clubs LC of Penang Light and LC of Singapore Eunos. The objective of this project is to gain knowledge of environmental and forestry education, which covered museum visit, jungle trekking, canopy walkway and picnic at the waterfall area. We all really enjoyed the trip and food at FRIM. Especially the children had the chance to watch the special magic show by Ln. Bob Chua from Singapore Eunos. The project ended at about 1:30pm with wonderful smiles and sweet memories.

7th Anniversary Celebration Dinner.

Although the Anniversary Celebration Dinner did not held in a big scale, but we have 74 members and guests attended this memorable function. We have the great honour to have VDG Ln. Ng Kim Leng be the guest of honour. The dinner started with President Alex Yeap’s address, followed with President Leslie Hong from LC of Penang Light and President Michael Tan from LC of Singapore Eunos. Our GOH VDG Ln. Ng Kim Leng has given a good comment that our club is a good standing club and should put more efforts to become a modal club. A birthday cutting ceremony was held after the Exchange of Mementos. The meeting was adjourned after the vote of thanks addressed by the OC Ln. JC Wah. The celebration was continued with variety of delicious foods and a joyful entertainment.

It was a succesful organising of this year Anniversary althought it was a small scale one, Syabass and thank to OC Lion J.C Wah.

The Lions Environmental Photo Contest

Our District Lions Clubs of International has organized an "Environmental Photo Contest" last year in Oct'05. Our District is sending an entry to the Multiple District level contest for best ONE selection to the LCI contest. Very fortunately our Club representative Lion J.C Wah has won this entry with the title of "Wonderland on Earth" to the MD's selection. On the District selection, JC's photo have entered as a consolation prize, however as his entry was the only "Lions" winner, hence this made his entry selected to go for the MD contest.
The District Contest was jointly orgainized with the Photographic Society of Malaysia, sponsored by Cannon Malaysia and Jabatan Alam Sekitar Malaysia. The contest have prized the Champion, 1st and 2nd runners-ups and 10 consolations prizes on 22nd January 2006 at KLCC.

ANNUAL MAJOR SERVICE PROJECT

This is the 4th Year that the Club has participated in the "Convocation Day and Carnival" of the New Era college in Kajang. Our OC Lion Desmond Tee happily adopted this project ever since his tenure as President a few years ago and continue the good job ever since then, Syabass!
It was the same with the previous year, the major services carried out wereour Blood Donation Campaign and the Organs Pledges. Unlike the previous year, we were able to provide the eyes screenings for our SIGHT FISRT project due to the unavailable of the Sight First Bus, hopefully the District will have a new bus soon for the this Disrtrict Program to kick start again.
The blood donation have raised about 100 pints of blood and 26 organs pledges.On the sameday, the club also have donated School Bags,Stationeries and Shoes for the poor children from 3 schools.
Our Leo, the Leo Club of KL Perennials was involved as well as had their Fund Raising for their club by selling honey at one of the many booths in the college. Our Presidents has donated 1000 eggs to the college and they have used them in various eggs dishes for the fund raise of the college that day.

Joint Blood Donation/ Organs Pledge and Membership Drive at Eastin Hotel

This was the 3rd and final round of joint project with the Clubs under Zone 10. It was a grand scale one amongs the 3 projects as its included a Press Conference and Health Talk by YB Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye who spoke on the topic of Organs Pledge Awareness and the data reporting of the champaign. Tan Sri also the Chairman of Organ Pledge of the country. The Special guests to the function were our VDG Ng Kim Leng and the Eastin Hotel's GM Mr. Wilfred Yeo who have sponsored the venue and partially subsidised the refreshments.

On the donations wise, the function received 157 pints of blood and 37 pledges of organs.

Youth - Sponsored Children in Musical Concert

The project Lions Clubs co-organised with Sukhi Hotu Sdn. Bhd in raising fund for the Earthquake Victims through a Musical Concert held at PGRM Kuala Lumpur on the 22nd December 2005.

Tickets were arranged for orphans undertaken by LC Cybercare and Lion Elaine have helped the Club (KLVC) by sponsoring 200 kids from orphanages homes in this concert.

Donation to A Brain Damaged patient -Hooi Keai Wah

We have donated a RM5000 from our project fund to aid Mr. Hooi Keai Wah (20 years old) in Ipoh who is a brain damaged patient. PCC S.T Yeoh recommented this case to the club after having read about articles in newspapers on the family of Hooi when Keai Wah got brain damaged followed a car accident 5 years ago.

So far, the Hooi's have received total RM90,000.00 from the publics and that the same fund also aids Keai Wah's younger brother of Keai Wai who is suffers from Down Syndrome and the family be able to send him to speacial school with a portion of this fund raised for the family.

Club made a trip for this donation in Ipoh, PCC S.T Yeoh, Kim Fong, President Alex were among who present at the Hooi's home. The donation was also witnessed by Mr. Gooi Seng Teik who is the Assemblyman of Bercham of Ipoh.

This was the 2nd part of the Charity Hair Cut provided by Mr. Alex and his team from La Mode Saloon. The Hair Stylist team an all of us have arrived at RUMAH HOPE in section 14th in PJ and gave the same treat for about 20 children.

It was like the earlier visit in Rumah Trinity, the Children at Rumah Hope too were treated with Nasi Lemak. They were very happy, because according to the care-takers the children usually only be provided bread or biscuites and Milo for breakfasts.

The Club wishes to thank Mr. Alex for the services he provide for the children of these 2 homes and hope when he has time in the future,may help us again in the future. Thanks also to an associate of Lion Erena who sponsored the Breakfasts for the Children. President thanked Lion Erena for this project welldone.

Community- Hair Cuts for Orphans

This project was initiated by our Lion Erena with the help from her friend Mr. Alex, the owner of LaMood Hair Saloon and a reknowned hair-stylist. The team of 5 stylists have provided thier service and have trimmed hair to some 10 kids in Rumah Trinity, some of the kids, especially the girls have refused to have thier hair trim, and it was so fun all of us the lions to have to "sweet-talk" them for the hair-cut!

We have also have treated these children and thier care-takers a "NASI LEMAK" for breakfast before the hair-cut very early in the morning when these children thought still having their bed-mood, again it was fun seeing them with different characters, some are really "fears" ha..ha..

This Health Services was the 1st in the series of services planned and undertake by Clubs in Zone 10 under the leadership of ZC Elaine Tan. We were able to collect from this building, mainly during lunch hours of some 96 pints of blood from people work around the Manara Asia Life. As for the Organs Pledges, the response wasn't good,however many have been interviewed and some brought back the forms for consideration. On the membership drive, we have provided informations to those we have approached, so far there is none work out and been follow-up. Desmond, Erena, Elliot and Elaine were at the service together with President Alex.

Joint Project with LC Penang Light and LC "Phuket Pearl"

On 26th- 29th November- 2005 Club joint Sister Club LC Penang Light for their international twinning with LC Phuket Pearl. In conjunction with this meaningful union, we have 2 joint projects with these 2 clubs, one was the visit to an "Elderly Home" in Phuket and the other was donation of Aluminium Lids from cans that we have collected for months (total of 110kg collected from 3 clubs) to donated to Prosthesis Center to make artificial limps and walkers. The donation was received by Dr. Thredchai Jivacate from Chiang Mai University. The donation will benefit people who are handicap or lost of limps during accident caused by land mines or born handicap. Jolin, ZC Elaine, PCC ST Yeoh and Moysuan join President, Secretary and Treasurer for the trip.

Joint project with LC Dungun, LC Trengganu, LC Mentakab and LC Chukai for "Pelangi Home for PLWAIDS"

The 5 clubs namely LC Dungun, LC Trengganu, LC Chukai Central, LC Mentakab and LC KL Vision City responded to the requests from "Pelangi Community Home for the people living with HIV(PLWHIV)" for food initially. The home being arranged bi-monthly from a union of all the HIV homes for food stuffs collected from the public to be distributed for their daily consumption, this was the initial idea that we too wanted to bring them more food, however after a discussion with the home caretaker that they actualy have a mission to build the place to a Hospice Home and at the moment they also making use of the sandy land to plant "Drangon Fruits" to genarate funds for futuere. To plant the fruits it needs 1.5m concreat poles to support it and the 5 Clubs have donated RM2500 to purchase the poles. Also, LC Chukai has donated 3 bicycles for their convenience and LC Vision City has donated a Sewing Machine for one in-mate so that she can earn some income by sewing clothings for the nearby villages. It was quite a big group of us visiting the Pelangi Home, the pictures witnessed it!

Visit to SAITH Hope & Love Home for Children

Aids to Poor School

We had a joint project with LC Bukit Kiara in presenting Books, School Bags, Stationeries, School Uniforms that included 20 pair of shoes to some selected poor school kids of SRK Bandar Tasik Selatan to help them prepare for the next school term. The project spent RM500 each club and we had help some 80 childrens. The projects also received helping hands from the publics who have donated some items i.e shoes to us.

Visit to Persatuan Kabajikan Anak Bersakit HIV/Aids Nurul Iman

Major Fund Raising-2nd Charity Golf 2005

On 02/10/2005, Club organised the 2nd Charity Golf at the Kinrara Golf & Country Resort in raising fund for a few Lions' Charity Organisations namely the REACH (Association of Resources and Education Center for the Austitic Children), KL Lions Renal Center, Lions Sight First II project, Lions Eye Bank and the Lions Down Syndrome Centre in Kuala Trengganu in total of 5 organisations of which they received RM2500 each. The event had raised total RM17,218 and the balance of RM4718 was channeled to LCKLVC projects' accounts for the Club to do other meaningfull community service projects.

We were thankfull to the public and some Lions Clubs buddies who have supported us in this event. President special notes to thank the organising commitee and its Chairman Lion Aven Yong for the hardwork and efforts put in for this event.

PEACE POSTERS CONTEST

The event took place at the SK Convent Bukit Nenas, and this was the no 5th year the school is selected by Club in promoting "Peace" among children through drawing of Peace Posters. With this year's theme "Peace without borders" participants required to create posters to express their views on the theme given. The event was participated by about 120 children from the school and Club have prepared 10 consolations prizes besides the 3 main winners of Champion , 1st and 2nd runner-ups. The Champion's drawing was sent to District Selection, however it didn't make any entry this year. Our Secretary Lion T.G. Lau was the organizing Chairman for this project.

Lantern Festival - community / Cultural Muhibbah

Club organised the first time a get together of community in promoting harmony -the muhhibah through our chinese Lantern Festival / Mooncakes. The event was spearheaded by our Lion Elsie Yong and have chosen Sri Damansara and its Residence Association in joining hands that have made this event a meaningful and successful one. The evening have reached out to thousands of residents and children of all races to have enjoyed the evening filled with fun games and performances. Our Leo's adopted children home-Precious Home gave a stage performance that have won many applauses. Residents have had a chance to share anf savior the mooncakes and other refreshments together with all the children. We have reached the target of a great fellowship in promoting Muhibah and introduced the "lantern festival" to all Malaysian.

Also, on the next day 17th October, President Alex and few members have sent the reserved mooncakes to "Amitabah" Old Folks home to share the joys with the folks on this auspicious mooncakes festival.

Visit Lions Autistic Center in penance, July 2005

A visit to the "Lions Autistic Center" during our trip in Penang in July lead by our PCC S.T.Yeoh, attended by our President Alex Yeap, Secretary Clarence Lau, Treasurer J.C Wah, Zone Chairman Elaine Tan, members Elliot Chee and MoySuan. It was a touching moment during the visit as we've learned that the Lions care about these special kids and have encouraged parents for their great involvement in the developing and training and counseling given to the autism children and teenagers.

Visit Sister Club, Lions Club of Penang Light on its Anniversary Celebration and Installation of President Leslie Hong and the Board of Directors of fiscal year 2005/2006.It was a celebration of 3 days program, we had a good fellowship night on the 1st night together with other sisters clubs of Penang Light, the LC of Taiwan Chung Hsio; LC of Sydney Bondi;LC of Singapore Host and LC of Perth Scareborough. The banquet night was the installation night and dinner and awards presentation in conjunction with its anniversary.In conjunction with the anniversary, all the sisters clubs joint LC Penang in a community service project that provided Health Screening, Sight First; and Blood Donations services to a school and the nearby community. The project also have donated 60 pairs of spectacles to some needy pupils from 3 different schools and donations of school bags.Like previous years, Fruits Fiesta after the project always made the most interesting part of all program...........because of the King of All Fruits of Malaysia-the Durians were served.The program ended with few more fellowships together with the overseas Lions from Taiwan and Australia like a "Cruise to No where" and fellowship breakfast, lunches

Club arranged a party and visit to the "Little Sisters of the Poor" in Cheras, Project Chairperson Lion Yvoone said it was a blessed event and Club has achieved its wishes for bringing the "little sisters of the poor" a funfilled afternoon with our brightest smiles and our companionship provided to the inmates. Club has prepared an early dinner with sumptious of food and drinks for the oldfolks...it was really a memorable and enjoyable event for the oldfolks there and us.

The talk have benefited some new members who have just join these 2 clubs, we also have some new faces who are friends of lions who were brought there to be introduced to the Lions Movement by their lions' frineds respectively.The speakers of the night were our Cabinet Secretary who is also a district trainer Lion Tan Kim Fong and District Trainer Lion Desmond Tee. The two have given tremendous force of information on "Lionism" and its movements in the country as well as its relationship internationally.

Work with DBKL- "BUNGA RAYA SEMARAK NEGARA"

On September 4th 2005, KLVC joint many other Clubs in Kuala Lumpur for "Bunga Raya Semarak Negara" in responding to the call of DBKL in promoting plantings of Bunga Raya our national flower. A Press Conference was arranged in the presenced of Tan Sri Dr. Lee, MP for Bukit Bintang, En. Shaari the Pengurus of Kaw DBKL and Mr. Peter Sprhanger, hairman of the Hotelier Assocition who is also the GM of Melia Hotel Kuala Lumpur.

Each participated Club spent RM350 and had donated 480 plants and 100 flower pots that being part of the program " Cinta Malaysia by planting Bunga Raya" that promote intergration between NGOs, Political Parties and the Publics.

"The Lions' contribution have been arranged infront of the Melia Hotel Jalan Imbi and, from Federal Hotel Bkt Bintang to BB Plaza Bkt Bintang, and they are very nicely planted and are blooming beautifully with proper nurturing by DBKL until this day.

The Club had the first round Fellowship / Social gets together on the 20th August 2005 at our 2nd VP Lion Aven resident. It was a “Pot-Luck” dinner where members brought their best dishes to the function. We had a great fellowship. We had our Installation of Presidents and the Board of Directors for fiscal year 2005/2006 early in June 2005. President Alex Yeap called his 1st Meeting with Club members after he's took office then. The meeting presented with President' planners and budgets for the administrations and run of club for his term. Matters been discussed pertaining these plannings and needful amendments and recommendations were taken note. It was a fruitful meeting and members have a fellowship for teh-tarik after the meeting.
